Human health insurance as in travel insurance actually is the same. They don’t cover for anything that could possibly be related directly or indirectly to something you already have.
You are expected to inform them of any changes and then they will decide whether to charge you more or whether to exclude even more.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Blanket exclusion is because that is easier than investigating  whether a new condition is related in any way to the original diagnosis.

e.g would the vet have done an xray if the cat hadn't the previous diagnosis of a heart murmur?

Yes. The most recent vet, the one dealing with the abscess said there was no murmur, just a fast heartbeat. I said that could be due to the infection so give the antibiotic injection as advised by the emergency vet (who also said no murmur AND nothing flagged up with heart) first, and once infection cleared, and if fast heartbeat still there, THEN do a chest x-ray to check the heart.
Not only did the 2nd vet talk about the heart, she also said the lump (abscess) could be cancer!
I work in healthcare and asked colleagues about this. They, like I was, were flabbergasted that vet 2 jumped to cardiac issues and possible cancer, before ensuring the infection had settled.

That is like saying bone cancer of the ankle is excluded because the patient had a twisted ankle 4 years ago.

it might be an exclusion if  it was a broken ankle.

However, the insurance company are entitled to make thier own rules and if yu donlt like then then donlt sign up.

If you want to pursue the issue then contsct the insurance compasny with all the information and the underwrited will make a decision.
