Letter to PALS

Quick question,

Had a pcn through from nexus for a hospital visit. If I appeal to PALS first, do I use the standard draft letter in the newbies thread that would also go to the parking company/con artists?

Thanks

    Welcome to the forum.

No! PALS won't understand that, it's designed purely for parking firms. You simply explain the situation to PALS, preferably not revealing the identity of the driver, without the complaint to them sounding too wooden, and ask that, given your circumstances on the day, they instruct the PPC to cancel the charge.

Thanks for the response, I'll give that a go first before submitting an appeal to nexus group.

If you wish, you can flash your draft up here for a glance over and any subsequent advice on it from experienced regulars.

Is the following likely to work with PALS?

    Dear PALS at********

As the registered keeper, I have received a parking charge notice after I visited the hospital on 18/09/2024 for an appointment. I'm contacting you in the hope you can request that this is cancelled.

I arrived in the car park with time to spare for my appointment but as usual, there was no where to park. This led to me being late for said appointment and over running the 30 minutes free parking.

Upon arrival at the payment machine, I was unable to complete a transaction as for reasons unknown, the machine wouldn't accept card.

This led to me running late for collecting the children from school so I had no option but to leave the site.

I look forward to hearing your response on the matter

    Kind regards

You need to cite the NHS Car Parking Principles to show why the Trust should cancel it.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

OK. You will need to give the name of the PPC, the PCN number, your car VRM.  You might also need to add with whom the appointment was, and maybe the medical issue you were being treated for, about the worry, distress, lack of sleep this is causing you. If you are elderly, mention that. Just try to get PALS on your side and to 'feel for you' a bit. (We don't need to see any of the personal/medical detail on the forum).

Did you actually miss your appointment?  If so, tell PALS that too.

I would take the bit about 'the registered keeper', it's not relevant to PALS, and you've not let slip in any other part of your draft the identity of the driver.  I think you're ok to go then.

Please let us know how it goes. Even if PALS won't help, there's still plenty more that can be done with help from the forum.

Email confirmation from PALS today that the PCN has been cancelled.
That's great news. Glad you have it in writing from PALS. The PPC may (or probably, may not) confirm it with you in writing, but, as we've seen in the past, the notice of cancellation to the PPC either hasn't arrived, or hasn't been actioned. So, for peace of mind, periodically check the status of your PCN on their website, until you see that it has been cancelled, then screenshot it .... and keep for posterity.

Nice to learn it's all turned out well for you. Happy to have helped.
