How to fit a ratflap?

Hi all

Does anyone know possibly how I can fit a rat flap in here. The pipe is 6" but the chamber above only allows access of about 4". We have a 6" rat flap?

Hoping someone can help please?

Not sure what a rat flap is? Presumably not like a cat flap for rats! Is it to keep rats from coming up from the drain but allow water to come up if it wants to?

Once you've cleared out the debris in the bottom of the chamber and fitted a manhole cover, you shouldn't need a rat trap.

I had to Google it! They're devices preventing rats getting into pipework, and entering your home via the plumbing apparently...

I had a bizarre mental picture in my mind of some sort of tiny cat flap to allow pet rats to roam freely in the house and garden... Hence the quick Google search!

If the chambers all have covers on them, and all rodding points/gullys have covers or grates in place then you don't need anything else to keep rats in/out.

Fitting any kind of device inside the chamber is also a bad idea as it will be a magnet for solid items in the fould water flow and be a source of blockages.

On the whole rats aren't as interested in drains and sewers as people believe.  They are sometimes useful routes from A to B, but there isn't much in the way of food in the average sewer and as a place to live they can be risky.
  • Hi, can I ask for you eventually get a rat flap out on that pipe? I’ve exactly the same pipe and looking to fit one as well.

Just not sure how to get the rat flap past the smaller opening.

Can u let me know. Much appreciated
