Lost IBM Shares

Hey forum, I could really do with some guidance here. My mother worked for IBM between 1968 and 1991 and was given shares in the company during her employment.
She has never done anything with them and they are probably worth a decent penny or two.
She had a go at locating them about 10 years ago by contacting Computershare who apparently were managing them. They responded with this:
In accordance with state unclaimed property laws this account has been closed. Our records indicate that shares and unclaimed checks were transferred to the State of New York as unclaimed property. The file for escheatment was prepared by Computershare on January 13, 2009.
They recommended to follow up with NYSOUF@osc.state.ny.us who may be able to help.
She contacted this address the next day (in 2011) but never got a response.
Can you suggest where we should go next with this this? I am stumped.
Appreciate your input!
Many thanks
