Not long now until my second stupidest account decision matures (worst was a 1.45% three year fixed that matured last October) …

If it helps you to feel less stupid, I took out a five year (three years ago) at 1.34%. Though only for £5000. It seemed like a very good idea at the time!1

What was the penalty for withdrawls or was closing absolutely forbidden?
I remember that MSE had a caluclator to see if you would earn more by switching out regardless of the penalty. That calculator allowed me to switch out of a couple of fixed rate ISA's with a clear concience.
• The rich buy assets.
• The poor only have expenses.
• The middle class buy liabilities they think are assets.

Found it.
It is for ISAs, but the maths still stands.

It doesn't say ISA so must have been absolutely forbidden - it must be possible to count on one hand any non-ISA fixes that allow withdrawals.
I generally use ISAs for fixes even if I wouldn't pay tax on the interest for this reason.0 -

Credit to you for your honesty.
In a sea of 'look at me' it's a refreshing change.
👏
PS mine was Leeds Utd shares. Bought only days before they went into administration

My mum kept an old British Leyland share certificate to remind her of her folly. I think mine was buying some Carnival Cruise shares just before Covid struck.
On the other side, there are still folk with 5 year mortgages at sub-2%, partly funded by such savings accounts.0 -
I do not remember who but my ISA was fixed at 0.5% a few year back
