Martin Lewis has sent a letter to the Energy Minister, protesting about faulty smart meters. I am, therefore, very reluctant to switch to a smart meter. What's the general consensus on smart meters within this forum?

General consensus? Get one, save money by accessing ToU tariffs. No reason to not have one.2
