Looking for an unusual hotel in Scotland

Wanting to book something special for a middle aged couple, anywhere in Scotland. Like an unusual hotel, lighthouse for example. Or maybe a hotel with something different like cooking classes. Any ideas?

Hi
We've used the Visit Scotland website a lot and there used to be a section on there for more unusual places to stay. (www.visitscotland.com)
I can't see the separate section on the current website but you should be able to use the search facility.

Check out

guide to "special places to stay" around the world, and the prices aren't extortionate either.

I've stayed at the Corsewall Lighthouse hotel. The food was fabulous but as you would expect (although I didn't!) it's a bit remote and not a lot to do round about. the rooms were nice but a bit standard.
One place that's lovely (that weblink just reminded me - thanks Tartan Mum!) - is the railway carriages at St Andrews. The owners ensure it's a really special visit and St Andrews is an absolutely beautiful place - lovely little shops, great walks, gorgeous beaches.
Hope they have a great time.0 -
For sheer fabulousness you can't beat the Prestonfield House Hotel in Edinburgh...stayed there for 2 nights last month and I honestly felt like an extra from Moulin Rouge. Very sexy hotel indeed.
If you want something a little more 'country' then the Treehouse at Fernie Castle Hotel in Fife is meant to be pretty cool...and I believe there's a boat/yacht hotel thing called the Hebridean Princess that floats around the Islands if that's more to their taste?
If not, just type 'haunted castle hotel scotland' into your search engine...you can't go wrong with some old ghosty goings on in big, creaky old castles. Good luck!0
