British Gas - stay incentives (offers in writing)

I have an offer, in writing, from British Gas, as an incentive to stay with British Gas.
However, after pursuing the considerable faff involved in attempting to switch from PAYG to direct debit, British Gas have now said:
"No, sorry, that offer you have in writing is incorrect and British Gas can't switch you to direct debit"
Could I ask if this something I should discuss with the fuel providers' ombudsman?
