New electricity contract after moving home

I’m moving into a new property in October after electricity prices are set to increase.  I don’t currently have an account with any electricity provider.  Can I get into a contract and benefit from the lower prices now, before the rates go up, even though I haven’t moved in yet?

No, you have to set up a contract with the incumbent supplier when you actually move in.

Take meter readings on the day you move in and if renting advise the landlord as well as the supplier, dated photos are always a good idea.

Make sure your initial deal is on the standard variable tariff so you can move of it or change supplier without penalty.

Also not sure how you would expect to "benefit from lower prices" when you wouldnt have actually used anything before the prices went up.

No - assuming it's a standard direct metering property -  you will have to wait and register with the current supplier - giving them current readings.

But some homes - but more commonly flats - are not on normal domestic supplies - but on community or freeholder managed schemes - ften just for heat and hw - but a few everything.

You need to know which before registering.

But if it is the more common own meter normal supplier direct billing setup then as above.

     Svt prices changed yesterday.

Fixed pricing takes a different view - it doesn't just look at the now - so few days ago deals were more expensive than July variable rates but cheaper than current Oct -Dec.
