Money Moral Dilemma: My daughter delivered a wedding cake an hour late - should she fully refund?

You have differing views here. My view is - it was an hour. Did it really ruin their day? I think the £100 offer is fair.4

What's in the contract should either party change their mind or fail to deliver to the agreement made? If I were a bride, I would not be signing a contract stipulating baker's failure to supply would result in me still paying over 75% of the cost0

Ok she was an hour late with the cake but he still took it. Seems like he wanted the cake and I presume people ate it but wants it free. If he wants a full refund then she should demand the cake back all of it. If he doesn't give her all the cake back then don't even consider giving him anything back not even £100. At least she got the cake there. Seems he's a chancer and rip off merchant2

Some people are stupid. It's a business she's running not a charity. Also take the cost of the ingredients out guys got no idea. If he wants a FULL REFUND RETURN ALL OF THE CAKE. Why should she lose money. I PRESUME THE GUESTS ATE THE CAKE. I think offer of £100 she made was generous as he still took the cake2

Let me get this right- on her wedding day, our bride, between seeing her auntie who she hasn’t seen in ages, and meeting her new cousins in law, has actually had to ask where the cake is, dealt with it arriving an hour late, naffing up the schedule, and is expected to think that it’s OK to refund a few quid?? There will have been real anxiety here, on her wedding day.Just refund the lot, and send flowers.7

If the cake was delivered before the reception - where it would be expected to be displayed - then I'd say the family should pay up. Considerattion could be made for a deduction from the payment.
If I was the baker I'd offer profound apologies and the promise of a similar cake to be taken with a couple of years - so they could give it as a wedding present or even a Christening present (or use themselves if appropriate).
If delivered after the reception started then I'd be eating humble pie if I was the baker. I'd just charge the cost of materials price.

Given the customer could have refused to accept because the contract had been broken she should be happy to give a substantial discount.1

I doubt very much anyone would order a cake to be delivered to the reception on the day of the wedding so I suspect this was the night before. If this is the case the customer is trying it on. £100 seems fair to me. We're all human afterall and it sounds like the baker is an independant.4

Well, let's see, your daughter has a business baking and delivering cakes, and she failed to deliver a wedding cake as arranged, and didn't realize until an hour later, when the stressed bride rang to ask where it was? Weddings are the biggest event most of us will undertake, hugely stressful, we make hundreds of arrangements, and rely on each business to fulfil their obligations. £100 refund indicates a lack of concern or appreciation of her actions, it is not a sincere apology or acknowledgement of poor service. Knowing that, I wouldn't use their services.3

Who in their right mind orders a wedding cake to be delivered on the day if their wedding.... in the evening😮
If it was delivered the night before the wedding, no, refund at all.
If a bride was stupid enough to order their wedding cake to arrive on the evening of their wedding day then they shouldn't reproduce for theor stupidity alone.
Yes your daughter should have been more professional.... she should have been in contact with the bride a few days before the wedding just to confirm the design, allergies or other requirements and to confirm date and time. She needs to be more responsible.
No she shouldn't be refunding in full the cost of the cake.
And anyone who is ordering their wedding cake to arrive on the evening of their wedding day.... have a word with yourselves and have ut delivered the night before or morning off.
