Is there a reason to delay a decision on an offer?

Hello
Made an offer last Friday on a house. I appreciate it's been the weekend and the estate agent told us there was someone else viewing on the Saturday. But we haven't heard anything as yet.
Really nervous about this but don't know if anyone can give any reasoning as to why someone may decide to wait to make a decision?
Is no news a good thing?
A friend said that they didn't outright reject it so it could be good news. We also know the house was being viewed on the Saturday by another party so the seller may be waiting to see if they put in an offer.

This doesn't sound long to me.
The owners may want to see if they get any other, and better, offers, Particularly if there are viewings.
To me, I think this situation is normal and you just need to wait. Yes, it's frustrating.
Your offer hasn't been rejected out of hand. Which is good, But, not really that informative.
If I were you, I would be patient. (And, that's what I've done). And, I would send a short polite email on Friday if you haven't heard by then.

For everyone saying no news is a good thing, you'll be able to find someone saying the opposite.
Don't try to second guess. It could be for any of the reasons you state/are thinking, or something else completely (eg, family emergency). Just try to be patient - its only been a couple of days.

The other party maybe weighing up their options.0

You could ask the agent what the situation is. Try not to sound too keen if you do this though!

The whole house buying process can be fraught with unexpected/unexplained delays.0 -
when we were selling offer next day, waited a week to see if other offersDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

Thanks.
Sorry, this is the first time of selling and buying at the same time so I know it's going to be a learning curve.
Our current house didn't even make it to market before we bought. They had a price in mind, we offered, they said no, so we upped the offer (to the price they wanted) and they accepted. No other viewings and they wanted rid fairly soon.
Will be more patient.
And yes, I will report back!
Just hope they accept.
It's offers over but we offered at that price (our top limit). Estate Agent said they received a very low (insulting) offer, which was rejected. They accepted another offer but the buyer found another house so pulled out. Had a few viewings since the house has been up earlier this year but it's quite a niche house that needs quite a lot of work.0 -
A days delay is nothing. They may need to consult with others, or want to see if any other offers come in, or just be busy or something.
Call the EA if you haven't heard anything by about Thursday or Friday.

Who’s the seller? If more than one person then they may need to consult with each other. Or they may have other stuff on. Or they may be hanging on for other viewers.0

Realistically they probably have viewings booked in this week and want to wait to see what their offers may be before making a decision. Due to the history i would say they are keen on getting a set figure which is likely what you offered but might be holding out on the hope someone may offer over especially now they have an asking price offer on the table that can be used as a way to encourage higher offers.0
