Cheap fix - British Gas

I have just switched from British Gas 12M v16 to British Gas 12M v8.

I am a British Gas customer and was advised today that I can switch to a different tariff with BG for free.

I am very confused but is this correct? ie Is the v8 cheaper (switched to today) than the v16 (switched to last week)?

And is it one of the current cheap fixes in terms of what BG are offering??

Any help appreciated thank you!!

Just do the sums based on your usage from actual meter readings 12 months apart.  Forget estimated readings, only Customer, Meter Reader or Smart will count.
Remember that you won't be able to switch penalty-free to BG's Standard Variable Tariff more than 49 days before it ends, only to another BG fix.  Also check Octopus's 15M fix which has no exit fee and a £50 bonus if a friend refers you.

Fixed Tariff 12M v8 unit rates significantly lower than previous version, standing charges not discounted as they were previous version.

North West comparison with Octopus Energy

    Unit rate
    5.397p per kWh (inc. VAT)
    Standing charge
    31.252p per day (inc. VAT)
    Exit fee
    £50 per fuel
You won’t pay an exit fee if you switch to another British Gas fixed tariff.

    Electricity tariff costs)

    Unit rate
    22.584p per kWh (inc. VAT)
    Standing charge

V8 was the tariff available in late July/early August, which matched the old price cap. It was pulled as prices rose in August but has now been brought back.
  • In comparing British Gas options, am offered The Fixed Tariff v5 and Fixed Tariff 12M v8, with almost identical projected savings for my usage, and no obvious wording differences. Seems to be a slightly different standing charge but rates show as the same. Is there a catch in choosing between these? Thanks!
