I was going for a fix on the cheap energy club website and noticed I could save over £200 a year but would have to get a Smart Meter installed, why do people on pre- pay meters get penalised?
It states that if you can not get them for technical reasons you can still keep the Tariff so what’s the big deal.

All SMETS2 smart meters can be configured for prepayment, so it's not clear why you think those who prefer this payment method are being penalized.
Suppliers are required to install smart meters wherever possible. Making some tariffs smart-meter-dependent is one way suppliers use to achieve their targets for meter installations.I'm not being lazy ...

And hasn't prepayment been the cheapest way of paying for some time now?Ildhund said:All SMETS2 smart meters can be configured for prepayment, so it's not clear why you think those who prefer this payment method are being penalized.

Yes, I think so. Standing charges (which used to be significantly higher for PP customers) were harmonized earlier this year (?) by making non-PP customers pay more. Unit rates have been a bit lower for PP customers. You can see all the capped prices on this page. And hasn't prepayment been the cheapest way of paying for some time now?I'm not being lazy ...
