House Insurance-empty property

Options
Just to prove i am not lazy-did a search on this but the replies are quite old (over ten years ) hence asking afresh.

am executor of an estate (my fathers ) -house sale involved -taking its time.
property is empty and as above-for sale .

My fathers insurers have been covering it as basic cover (as unoccupied ) but its up for renewal -to be fair-they will renew but premium has sky rocketed .

I was expecting a large increase but not 6 times previous premium.
i accept the insurance co will view it as a bigger risk as unoccupied ,but i owe it to myself/the estate/the beneficiaries to ensure i am acting responsibly re the  new insurance price.

has anyone experience-aware of a particular company who are 'reasonable' when it comes to house insurance on empty properties (again-i am equally aware that they insert clauses about inspecting weekly/fortnightly etc -but looking for a 'sensible premium '.

any recommendations ?

thank you

Just put the details into a comparison site and see if any names pop up.

I am in exactly the same position. Our probate lawyers recommended these guys - https://www.homeprotect.co.uk/

When I checked you can choose unoccupied, but I can only go as low as a one year term. However, this was cheaper than three months with a temporary insurance provider, so figure it makes sense to use them.
  • We are paying £56 per month to Simply Business for buildings and contents insurance on an empty property but as others have said, use a comparison website.

    All the best 🙂

We used a company called Adrian Flux to insure my dads empty house after he died. Up until it sold in July 2023 we were paying £21.32 a month - 2 bed semi in the midlands. It was buildings only as we had emptied the house. They were recommended by a friend of a friend. Only thing we had to do was regular checks of the property, which we wrote down in a notebook.
