Hotmail problems

Options
I have both Thunderbird and Outlook (office 2019) on my laptop - I am unable to receive Hotmail emails via Thunderbird, despite the password working in Outlook.
The server settings are both using "outlook.office365.com" for the server.
I have checked the password many times and it IS correct.
Why should identical settings work in Outlook but not Thunderbird ?
I can even log in to Outlook.com and receive them online

    Changes to Authentication

Microsoft has instituted the following changes:

    • Deprecated basic authentication (username/password), and is instead now requiring OAuth authentication.
    • In some cases, SMTP authentication has been completely disabled. For new accounts, SMTP always starts disabled. In addition, there are some restrictions on SMTP that are not currently understood.

Microsoft have also changed the way they classify certain clients, and Thunderbird’s previous OAuth setup does not properly qualify as a desktop client. As a result, we have been forced to make configuration changes to Thunderbird, which may have side effects for users.

You need to change it to OAuth

OAuth is an authorization protocol and NOT an authentication protocol.

It can be used used for both.
    A  very long guide https://fusionauth.io/articles/oauth/modern-guide-to-oauth
    What is OAuth 2.0?

OAuth 2.0 is a set of specifications that allow developers to easily delegate the authentication and authorization of their users to someone else. While the specifications don’t specifically cover authentication, in practice this is a core piece of OAuth, so we will cover it in depth (because that’s how we roll).

I expect the good folks are Mozilla knew what they were talking about when giving a guide to those that were having issues with TBird
