I guess if its curly it can coil up and heat up if used with high loads, and potentially a trip hazard.1

Thanks both. That's the trouble Chris, I don't want to have to add bits. I'd just like a complete one with one socket.Otherwise in MSE style I may as well chop some of the long ones I have into short ones and add a single socket. I haven't seen any short single socket ones in the shops. It seems more is more these days to make the most profit.

How long/short an extension lead are you looking for?twopenny said:Thanks both. That's the trouble Chris, I don't want to have to add bits. About 2ft.........tiny place with all sockets in the corners of rooms, just where you want furniture. So as I move my laptop around I don't have to do gymnastics to get the plug in.A curly one is just so easy to pull out or flick back under a table looking tidy.

Is this just for the laptop? Depending on what type you have, you can add an extension like this which is similar to what I have and worked well.
Otherwise, is a retractable power reel an option? A friend has a small one behind the sofa which he pulls out for vacuuming or using a laptop on a chair.1 -
I could make one of those up from what I have Moneysaver but the one you have is for Apple only and I have none.Retractable would be harder work than a loose lead I think and not look pretty but a good idea.

He has it under a behind-the-sofa shelf so the reel isn't visible (although when I last saw him a few years ago, he was considering in moving the reel to an IKEA coffee side table and cover it!).twopenny said:I could make one of those up from what I have Moneysaver but the one you have is for Apple only and I have none.Retractable would be harder work than a loose lead I think and not look pretty but a good idea.0 -
Hopefully the reel users only use them fully unwound in order to avoid the overheating / fire issues that can arise otherwise.0

It's important to be aware of the issue, but if you're just plugging in a laptop then it may well be fine. The specs on my extension reel say it's okay for loads up to 720W when fully wound, and 3120W when unwound. If you're in any doubt then always unreel it fully though, especially if the reel feels at all warm.Emmia said:Hopefully the reel users only use them fully unwound in order to avoid the overheating / fire issues that can arise otherwise.0
