Faulty Printer Out Of Warranty Known Issue

Hi hi all, I have a Canon Selphy photo printer which I bought 4 years ago. It prints postcard size real photos same quality you’d get from a photo print shop. Cost around £100. It’s printed less than 100 photos.  Ive come to use it and it’s stuck on the welcome screen, a search of the internet leads me to a mot of discussion on the manufacturers website with many people reporting the same issue.

What are the chances of using that evidence to get a repair or replacement? I know it’s 4 years old and only around £100 but I’ve barely used it and it’s a common fault. Apparently it’s due to diodes failing when it’s not been used for a long period.

If you were to claim, the most that you would be eligible for is the second hand value of a 4 yo £100 photo printer.  How many pence would that be?

That's only evidence that someone else's printer has failed.
    1. Some could have failed due to diodes.
    2. Some will have failed due to other causes entirely.
    3. Some (perhaps most) will not have failed at all. Plenty of old ones around on eBay for a few quid. The sellers claim they are still working fine.
    4. Neither you nor anyone else knows what proportion have failed. Probably far fewer than you think just from reported failures.

But even if 99% of other ones have failed due to faulty diodes after 4 years use, consumer law entitles the trader to see independent evidence from you that your specific printer which you bought from them has failed due to factors which were inherently present at the point of sale, when your contract was made.
