I am in the middle of buying my first home, with a mortgage.
My Conveyancer has sent me an email, requiring a payment of £450, so that they can order the Environmental, Water and Drainage searches.
Is this an average cost these days?

I recently went through the buying process.Had to pay £500 upfront on account and then rest of the costs settled on completion.Think searches were around £250/£300.0

Our “standard search pack” comes to around £380 - we charge this on with just a small added admin fee to cover the work of actually applying, checking the details etc. £450 isn’t unreasonable - as the search provider your solicitor use may be slightly more expensive, and it would be fair to charge more for the admin side than the firms work for do, in honesty.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Our searches - done last month - cost £400, so I'd say yours are reasonable.0

I think search fees are what is called 'disbursements' for which the cost is set, rather than at the solicitor's discretion. (Thought might vary between councils / water companies etc).0
