The Range and related retailers

I ordered some patio chair cushions from the Range website. They came with a Range header on the invoice. They weren't the right size so I returned them to the Range. However, I am refused a refund because I sent them to the Range and not the independent retailer who despatched them.. The invoice says nothing about NOT returning to the Range. 
They did arrive at the Range as I received notification
Seems a bit of a complicated way to do business and an excuse for not refunding? 
Anyone had similar experiences? Any solution?

The Range have a marketplace with 3rd party sellers, are you saying you went store and was refused a refund but still have the cushions or that you've posted it to the Range and so no longer have them?

Where are the cushions now?  Are you able to get them back (even if you have to pay postage)?
