Outdated Experian credit file

Options
Just a warning - Despite saying on the company website that if you move house you don't need to tell Experian - banks etc will do that - Experian's terms and conditions expect users to inform them of any changes to your file.

I found out the hard way - couldn't log on to my file for ages because it had been blocked. But I eventually found out (after having to pay £14.99) that the address information held was about three years out of date; Experian said I was not on the electoral roll and my credit cards etc were all old and unused. Consequently my score was over 50 points less than it should have been.

The other two agencies are capable of keeping up to date records - why not Experian?

Your score is meaningless, + or - 50 points is moot as you are the only person who ever sees the gimmick score, lenders only take the data and process it themselves.

What you are reporting doesn't seem right, if you are registered on the electoral roll and your banks etc are up to date, this will feed in, sounds more like a problem with your file with Experian given they also have problems with your cards

A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

You have the right to add comments to your file if you think there's something wrong but I don't think this is serious enough and will only flag that you have a problem with a well known and respected product.  (rightly or wrongly)

On the plus side Experian is not the only credit record company around and many companies will check more than one if you are requesting credit.  There's always discrepancies so really I wouldn't sweat it.

I disagree here Brie - if Experian have the wrong address and have data 3 years out of date on cards held/usage etc it will cause problems with a credit check given a lot of people use Experian. OP needs to formally complain to Experian (especially having to pay to use their "service" to try and fix their mistake)
