I've mostly taken return flights from within the Europe and I'm booking my first long haul flight for some time so would appreciate some advice please.

I’m looking to fly Heathrow -> Singapore. Then after a few days in Singapore. Singapore -> Bali. After spending time in Bali. Bali -> Heathrow.

Purchasing the flight from Heathrow to Singapore seems straight forward but my concerns are around the Singapore to Bali and Bali to Heathrow flights.

When I visit the Emirates website and search for the flights, I receive this message:

“As you selected a departure point outside of United Kingdom (UK), you have now been directed to the Indonesia website to finalise this booking. Your booking will be subject to the terms and conditions of the Indonesia website, including those relating to consumer protections, which may differ from those of United Kingdom (UK). Please note that your booking will be charged in Indonesian Rupiah (IDR).”

So is there no way to pay in GBP if I’m flying from outside the UK? And would I not receive the consumer protection as if I were a UK citizen? Is there any way around this? I guess my best option is to pay with a credit card that charges no FX fees e.g. Barclaycard Rewards?

Any other advice would be much appreciated.

It appears you are booking it as different flight legs.  Heathrow to Singapore as one flight, then a separate flight Singapore to Bali.

What you need is a single booking for multiple flights originating at Heathrow,

Sorry, I've updated the original post. The plan would be to spend a few days in Singapore and Bali e.g. Heathrow -> Singapore. Stay a few days. Then Singapore -> Bali. Stay a few days. Then Bali -> Heathrow.

Are you using their Multi-City/Advanced to book it as a single trip or are you trying to book them as independent flights? If you do the former it should all be completed in GBP and under English Law so UK protection.

A UK Citizen doesn't get UK rights world wide, if you are buying from an overseas company they can choose the legal jurisdiction that applies. The Singapore to Bali flight won't have any UK rights given neither airports are in the UK/EU and it's not a UK/EU airline.

Have you looked at the Singapore Airlines website.

We fly MAN - SIN - DPS.
Non-stop to Singapore and then a couple of hours layover and on to Bali.

As others have pointed out, you need to be looking and booking as a multicentre trip.

I am actually doing exactly the same as you in two months time. We are flying LGW SIN DPS SIN LHR with stop over in SIN outbound. This booked on SQ although I also priced up and considered EK as well.

Yes, try a multi centre.  LHR - > SIN -> DPS -> LHR but another alternative is to do an "open jaw" which would be LHR -> SIN and DPS -> LHR with someone like Emirates and do the SIN-DPS leg separately on a local low cost carrier like AIr Asia or Jet Star.

I regularly do a trip to SE Asia where I fly into one airport then home from another but just arrange the internal flights separately.
