Hi everyone,
Rosyred, tell me about it, my food bill has gone up exponentially since Brian stared listening to healthy eating podcasts. The porchetta at the weekend from the farm shop was about twice what I'd have paid in the supermarket. It was delicious and Brian had 3 helpings, I ended up saying that the advice was to buy better meat but eat less of it!
Taff, thanks, I have no children today so I might just spend an hour watching Tuesday's bake off. That reminds me, we watched David Mitchell's new programme, Ludwig last night. We really enjoyed it so we might binge the rest. Btw, the saying pot and kettle come to mind, you're always so busy yourself.
Dp1, good news, I hope she manages to get back to school soon.
Mehefin, these things wouldn't be half so annoying if you didn't have to spend ages on the phone trying to sort it out.
Have a good day.

Hello all, we've had rain but it's dry at the moment, if it stays dry we'll go back over the van to collect the stragglers.
We spent nearly 3 hours at Dad's yesterday sorting things and he's also asked DD to cancel his carers so he's back to having just biscuits for his breakfast. He's lost so much weight lately that he can't afford to lose any more and I'm glad I took some crumpets over for lunch which he ate with gusto. I cleaned out his fridge as there was something smelly in it, half the food went out as way OOD including a brown mess in a plastic bag which was apparently the remnants of a tin of corned beef 🤢.
I've brought home a carrier bag full of bills, leaflets and manuals which have been collecting dust in piles on the unit in his living room. He can never find any paperwork is so I'll sort them into a folder for him, that'll while away a few hours. I also have the washed and dried clothes to sort and put away. I think I'll make an spanish omelette for tea today as I've got quite a few eggs to use up.
TA many hugs to you, it must be so hard and bring back sad memories.
Mehefin hope everything is sorted now.
taff I think dad is in a category of his own, the tales I could tell would turn your hair white 😂
Silver Oldie hope the walk and talk goes ahead.
Gers thought you were talking about a day of sloth not a programme, daft me.
Crisca I did the family tree on Dad's side and got back to 1600's then got stuck. Good luck with yours.
dp1 glad little one has been discharged, I hope she stays out of hospital for a long time now.
Scarlett enjoy your new fire.
Take care all, keep well. I hope I haven't left anyone out today.
nan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently11 -
@Nan - it could also be a day of sloth, very easily.
My late DM ate a lot of biscuits in her final few weeks, mainly rich tea. Her appetite was poor for actual food apart from scrambled eggs.
@Snoozer - GBBO was good if rather long. I recorded it and whizzed through a lot of stuff. There's one particular innuendo which will make your eyes water! As of Ludwig, it too is recorded and I'll watch it later this afternoon, it has got great reviews.@SO - hope that you enjoyed the walk and talk and that the weather didn't make it too miserable.@Taff - the front view is spectacular (on a good day) as it faces south, the back is lovely too.@Chrisca - my late brother was a semi-professional genealogist and did all the family trees years ago. Since he died no-one has really bothered to update his huge document. He did the heavy searching so perhaps all the new births and deaths should be added.Gardener is here, we spent a wee while catching up and now she's outside pulling up dead stuff. She'll tie back my lovely Mary Berry rose which is branching outtrouble is that it gets buffeted by the winds which drive around the back garden. Despite it being fully walled it's not too sheltered.
I've got a pot of soup on the go - lentil, leek and carrot. It already smells delicious, once it's done I'll blend it up.9 -
CHRISCA I'm another who started a family tree some years back. I started with my maternal grandma's side as I already knew a little bit of her history from my mum. I got back as far as 1568 before I got stuck. Along the way I met up with a lady I shared the same Gt Gt Grandfather with and we emailed each other for a while after our meet up.. I developed an addiction to searching so once stuck then started on my dads branch. When stuck with that I then started on Bob's! We tripped around all over searching the areas they had lived and taking photographs of the area and any of their homes still standing! If any of the occupants saw me they must have wondered why these strangers were photographing their homes!
Sadly illness and appointments etc put an end to my searching and I have never got back into it. Although every winter since I have promised myself I will resume. Maybe this winter!"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"9 -
I'm another one who started a family tree years ago, but as I was still working at the time I just didn't have the time to devote to it.
The strange thing was one day I was looking on fb and there was a photo of my mum and dads wedding, and someone asking if anyone knew who it was as she'd found it amongst her late dads photos. It turned out to be my cousin (my mums brother) whose family had lost touch when they moved to Yorkshire. She had done the family tree but had no luck contacting anyone. Since then we've reconnected with another cousin. Good old fb (sometimes).9 -
I'm glad a few of us have gone down the family tree route!! I've found paternal great grandparents but I seem to be stuck on my maternal grandfather. I've found info of his death (which I know of as I went to his funeral!) but I cannot find anything relating to his birth or his marriage to my maternal grandmother. I'll keep digging though! It's not straightforward is it.P.S. I enjoyed Ludwig too. I do like David Mitchell's style of humour8

@Chrisca50 - I have been doing family history since 1965, for myself then professionally since 1974. Don't forget that FamilySearch is free. There are at least three parts to use - the records search, the FamilyTree search, and the catalog if you know the parish. If you can get to a Familysearch Centre, you can use Ancestry, FindMyPast, and other sites for free. Try looking for the marriage under her name as well as his. Sometimes peoples' names were misread and you have to look under variations of the name including possible nicknames. Good luck. I wish there was a site on here as I would love to help people find their ancestors. I do it voluntarily now. You can always PM the information you have on your maternal grandfather, and I would try to see if I can help.7

Hello everyone
Just a quickie - DD and little one are pleased to be home...it's been an awful day here so I think they've spent most of it snuggled up on the sofa together. She is still on her feeding pump but has started to eat small amounts of real food too so hopefully she'll not need the pump for too long. I called in to the school office to tell them and they were all delighted she's back. There will be more training to do before she can go back to school but her teacher gave me some work to give her.
Dad will be in hospital until Monday now as the care company can't start the lunchtime call until then - he isn't happy about it and neither is mam, but there's nothing we can do. I'll go with mam on Saturday to visit him.
Right going to get washed up x9
