Universal Credit Amount

Hello,

I would be grateful if someone could confirm that the universal credit amount my adult son received last month is correct.

He is entitled to the standard allowance of £393.45, and £198.31 for being a carer. He receives carers allowance every week for being my carer. He also is entitled to £440 for the housing element. The total he is entitled to is £1,031.76.

DWP took off £23.23 for income support I guess that was an overlap of the old income support he was receiving. £221.69 was taken off for Carers Allowance and £140.02 taken off for Carer Support Payment. The total amount he received was £646.82 including housing element.

Will £221.69 and £140.02 be taken off every month?

I would be grateful if someone could confirm that this is the correct amount he should receive please?

Thank you

  • Does he receive payments of both Carers Allowance and Carer Support Payment?  If so, how much per week for each?

    Hi,

He receives Carers Allowance of £81.90 per week. Carers Allowance has changed name to Carers Support Payment in Scotland but there’s no extra payment, just the change of name.

He has only ever received £81.90 a week.

Maybe the changeover from Carers Allowance to Carers Support Payment in Scotland happened in the month when my son’s Universal Credit was being calculated?

He had his first payment of Universal Credit last month.

    Thank you for your help.

Usually the amount deducted for carers allowance is £354.90/month. The amount they took was an extra £6.81. I don't know why they took out the extra, others may know.
  • Thank you for your help. I was taking the carers allowance amount and multiplying it by 4 so getting a smaller amount that should be deducted. It’s the monthly £354.90 that is deducted. Thank you for your time. I really appreciate your help.
  • If my son is put into the LCWRA group will he still receive carers allowance? I read from someone earlier that he wouldn’t be entitled to the carers element of Universal Credit.

    Thank you.

As LCWRA is worth more than the carer element then he would receive that instead in his UC calculation.

He can still claim Carers Allowance.

Just to explain the difference between your calculation and the figure they would normally take, to convert a weekly figure to monthly it's x52 ÷12 (52 weeks in the year, then divided into 12 months.)
  • Thank you for your knowledge Spoonie_Turtle. Always appreciated.
