Hope this is the right place. Haven't anyone at home atm hence this question.

I wanted to play a video on youtube but it gets stuck after a minute. Youtube suggests you delete your temp files and/or cookies. So I've looked at my temporary internet files and it's got loads of files in there! (Never looked before and don;t think ever deleted before hence chocoblock status!) Now if I press delete temporary files what's the chances I could delete anything else.....................................or am I pretty safe doing this. Just don't want to delete them and then the stupid computer doesn't work. Will not please my OH! :p Thanks for any advice.

Thank - had a look at link - it's American right. I presume you use it yourself and it's safe? What's the difference between downloading that and deleting via control panel though. Sorry if I sound thick! lol

    EDIT:
Tried to download and my system tells me it can't be verified ..................so not sure about it.................

CCleaner clears temp files from many applications, not just your browsers temp files.

CCleaner is a freeware system optimization and privacy tool. It removes unused files from your system - allowing Windows to run faster and freeing up valuable hard disk space. It also cleans traces of your online activities such as your Internet history. But the best part is that it's fast (normally taking less than a second to run) and contains NO Spyware or Adware! :)

Lara - in answer to your original question, you can't do any harm deleting your internet temp. files or cookies and should do so regularly for housekeeping purposes.

When you delete cookies, you remove settings that you have selected for various web sites so, for instance, if you've ticked the 'remember me' box for this site, then delete your cookies, you'll find that you need to log into the forums next time you visit. There are more sinister uses for cookies, so it's a good idea to clear them regularly.

You should also empty the temp folder on your hard disk regularly as well to prevent a build up of 'rubbish' on your PC. I just use Disk Cleanup from the Accessories\System Tools menu once a week or so, then Disk Defragmenter every month or so and have never seen the need for any extra tools.

My pleasure, Lara. (I'm not a teacher, but my children tell me I have nerdy tendencies!)

I had a similar problem with Youtube a while back and didn't find their advice much use, I'll admit. I ended up re-installing my sound card drivers and that did the trick.

  • try pressing the pause button on youtube, until the whole thing has downloaded, then play it.
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?
