problems using a wireless Contour mouse

Backstory:  I was prescribed a left handed XL contour mouse at work as part of reasonable adjustments about 30 years back.  Love it!  Various employers have continued to supply these for me over the years and when I was made redundant a couple of years back I was allowed to keep my latest mouse as no one else was going to use it and work just wanted things cleared out.  Grand.  Started a new role after that with a charity and unfortunately dropped my mouse and broke the primary key so have been using it with the secondary key only for quite some time.  I tried to order a new one but they're no longer made and were selling on ebay for about £120 so I wasn't going to ask the charity to fork out for that.

Now:  I found a new (or good second hand) mouse online at cex a couple of months back and bought it for myself.  Turned out that while it was sold as a XL it was actually only a L so I considered taking it back which cex would have allowed for full refund.  But it was only £15 and only slightly smaller so I decided to keep it.

Life has been busy so it's taken until today to try and get it set up and I've run into another problem.  The wireless dongle won't work.  Previously all I've needed to do was plug the dongle in and charge the mouse itself and start clicking.  I can use the mouse with the wire plugged into my pc - not that big an issue frankly but I'd rather be wireless.

So does anyone know if I'm supposed to charge the dongle?  As I say I've never needed to do this previously.  Or can I somehow use my previous mouse's dongle by pairing it to my new mouse in some way?

The manuals for other versions of their products give instructions on how to pair the mouse and dongle to each other so it could be that they've just become unpaired rather than the dongle not working. As long as the version of wireless (most likely Bluetooth but not definitely) are the same then old and new dongles should work with it once paired.

If it is bluetooth then you should be able to pair it directly with the computer without using the dongle but it will depend if you are always using the same computer or not if thats more convenient than using the dongle

interesting!  yes - this would always sit on my desk at home and be used with my laptop which for 51 weeks of the year also sits on my desk.  In any case how does one pair a mouse to either a dongle or laptop?

    On another model it states:

With the mouse in close proximity to the dongle, hold left click, right click and the cursor speed buttons at the same time until the LED indicator turns green and pulses twice in succession.

It may vary by model but couldn't quickly spot the manual for your particular model but it's likely to be some combination of buttons held and often will have some form of visual feedback. The dongle would need to be in the computer with the power on etc which the instructions dont say.

If its bluetooth, looks like some are and some aren't, then you'd go into the bluetooth control panel in the computer and look for the mouse to appear and click on it to connect. With some it'll be visible all the time, for others only when it's in pair mode.

Ideally google for the correct instruction manual for your model of mouse if not its somewhat trial and error
