Uswitch car insurance comparison: Beware

Been looking for a good deal on car insurance renewal and got quotes through all the usual sites including Uswitch.  They listed RAC for £163.36 so I decided to proceed.

For reasons unknown on the RAC site, the "license held since/driving test passed" appeared as September 1991 although we held our licenses since the early seventies and had correctly entered that on Uswitch.

I then corrected this in my details from September 1991 to February 1975.  The RAC website showed something like "working on the quote" and suddenly the annual premium shot up to £207.35.

That is 27% more for having 49 years of driving experience rather than just 33 years.  Call that what you like, but I was certainly not impressed with the quality of the Uswitch search nor RAC itself, whacking up the premium just out of the blue. To be fair, correcting the "license held since" date for my wife from 1991 to 1971 did not increase the premium any further.

Nevertheless, I decided to give RAC a miss and went for the AA instead which turned out a little cheaper than the final quote from RAC.
