Disposing of a water fire extinguisher

A company I was working for many years ago was moving offices and offered staff any of the kit left in the old office. I took a water fire extinguisher thinking it was sensible to have one at home. Now many many year later I am trying to dispose of the extinguisher but the local tip says it is industrial waste and won't take it. How can I get rid?
Thanks
Thanks
I think....

The fire training officer where I used to work took a couple of out of date extinguishers off my hands for recycling, so I suppose it can be done. Perhaps ask at the nearest fire station?I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)
The sun's been out and I think I’m solar powered (Onebrokelady)

Anything like that I'd just throw in my brown wheelie bin (landfill). You might want to use the fire extingisher up first i.e. run it dry, it will be safer

I would imagine most scrappies will take it off your hands and know how to dispose of it.
I most definitely would not put it in the wheelie bin, could get caught in crushing mechanism and cause problems for all concerned.Play with the expectation of winning not the fear of failure. S.Clarke2 -
Is it a reusable type, with a Schrader valve?0

Scrappy as someone has said, they are not keen on taking the ones with powder in as they have to dispose of the powder.
some of these are aluminium and have a good weight to them.1 -

As a aside to this, there is a horrifying video/news item on BBC London webpage today about what can happen if wrong materials are put in wheelie bin.Play with the expectation of winning not the fear of failure. S.Clarke0
