Marriage name

hi there,

Looking for some advise please.

I have been divorced since 2016 but kept my ex's surname so I had the same name as my son.
I have been engaged for 6 years now & looking at getting married in Cyprus next year ...however, my name on my birth certificate is my maiden name & my passport & all other documents is still under my ex's surname as I never changed back.

Is there something I would need to do before I got re-married? Help!
Many thanks

You don't need to do anything, you can be called by whatever you want.

Your birth certificate will never change, irrespective of how many name changes you make during your lifetime.

Surely you just present your birth certificate, a copy of your first marriage certificate evidencing the name change, and divorce documents for when you seek to get your licence / paperwork for your second marriage.

But in reality you can be called whatever you like, so you could use your maiden name, first married name or second married name... Go double barrelled, or opt for something else entirely.

Did you previously buy each child a present to the same value but your child only got one present from each family?

If not, why did you agree the same monetary amount?

A gift is not a required amount .. You are quite entitled to give less.

    Thank you for confirming, appreciated.

Hasn't your wedding planner talked you through all this?

I'm not sure of the current situation regarding needing a certificate of non impediment. Friends, who live in Cyprus, chose to marry outside of the country because, for them, getting the certificate was logistically difficult.

All the documents you do use as evidence need to be apostilled in the country of issue.

    Good luck with the wedding!

Make sure if you do/don't change to book all holidays in the name that's in your passport
