That's the same smets1 smart meter I had fitted in 2011 by Scottish power. It has a 10 year anticipated battery life, when it fails you won't even be able to do manual readings. mine was replaced with a smets2 meter about 2 years ago.

Suppliers have targets to meet on meter installs.  These letters, emails, texts etc are all designed to nudge users into arranging a meter upgrade.

If it is end of life suppliers have a legal process they can go through to gain access and change it.

OP,assuming there's no difference from when you queried this 4 years ago,and the meter is outwith it's certified lifespan your supplier is responsible for replacing it as and when necessary.
If the supplier chooses to fit a smart meter that's what'll happen, interested or not.

Some of the comments are verging on being a bit unnecessary, although somewhat understandable given this exact thing is regularly and repeatedly discussed.

  • OP, talk to Citizens Advice.
Explain that your supplier wants to replace your electric meter because it's reached the end of it's certification period. Mention it's a MID certified electric meter which according to the CAB website does not expire and you would prefer not to have a smart meter fitted. See what they suggest.
