Avis USA

Already got a car booked through expedia and enterprise for £527 no insurance in the price found an excess cover with CDW and SLI for £85 with Bettersafe . Was having another look today and found on skyscanner  same car with Avis through klook for £508 with CDW SLI and theft protection included.. Has anybody booked avis recently and found the insurance to be adequate or do you need more cover.

We’ve just hired a car in S Africa through Avis and like the one you’ve shown above, it doesn’t cover damage to tires, glass etc. We have a yearly policy through one of the companies recommended by MSE so when we explained this they were fine. I think that’s all you need.

As it happened we had a puncture when we were miles from Jo’burg but they said if we were happy to get it repaired then do that, which we did, (which was very cheap!)

Avis were very good tbh.  They didn’t have many cars on our arrival and it took a while to get that sorted but in the end they upgraded us to an Audi Q2 which was very nice to drive.

Have you checked the cancellation terms of both the Expedia Hire and the Bettersafe insurance? Could well be you can't cancel either so your wasting your time looking for cheaper deals when you're already locked in

Previously booking Avis via a UK company would give you the necessary cover for CDW and SLI (Third Party cover).

However Avis last year lowered their SLI limit to US$500k (from US$1M) so now I get an annual Bettersafe policy to top it back up to US$1M.

Avis also have their own ALI (All Liability Insurance) that you can purchase to do the same top up.

Maybe the Skyscanner/klook have not updated their relevant screens.

This is from the Country Specific Conditions on my next USA  booking with Avis

    Third Party Liability
When “TPL” or “Third Party Liability” is indicated on the rental agreement, an inbound rate includes third party liability limits of $500,000, regardless of the state of rental. Third party liability protects the renter and all authorized drivers of the rental vehicle against third-party bodily injury or death and property damage claims up to $500,000 per single occurrence for cars rented at U.S. locations
