Illness cover

Options
Ive had illness cover insurance for many years as I'm self employed. Last year I was offered to renew as usual. I did, paid the premium and thought nothing of it. Now, just before this years renewal I was advised that not only could they not renew but I shouldn't have been accepted last year as the policy finishes at 60 and I was 61. Question is, if I had made a claim during the past year would it have been valid? If not, then is the premium I paid refundable? TIA.

It sounds like you might be right but it is also possible that he person you spoke to got it wrong.
Maybe the policy only covers you until age 61.  Or maybe you have to be under 61 at the start of the policy year.  You should check the policy wording,
If you would not have been covered then I believe you are due a refund of premium

Sounds like it as an Accident & Sickness policy?

What do the terms state about claims later in life?

Without knowing what the terms say its impossible to say what would have happened last year had you made a claim... could be just the sales process is meant to stop oldies buying and the terms are silent and so a claim would have been paid in full.
