Question about carers credit..

Hi my partner and myself care for our daughter who is severely autistic, who is on DLA on medium to high rate. Due to the ridiculousness of how careers allowance works only one of us can claim it, which is my partner. We both easily put 50 hours of our time for our daughters care and came across something that is called " Carer's Credit". Now the real question is can I/myself claim for carers credit while my partner/mother continue to claim carer's allowance? if so will it effect her claim for carer's allowance? Thank you for any help.

It sounds as if you can claim for it without affecting your partners Carer's Allowance
Carer's Credit: Overview - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
It doesn;t give you any money - just gives you NI credits to help ensure that you will be entitled to a State Pension if unable to work due to your caring commitments1 -

I can't answer your question I'm afraid, but if you are claiming UC then that comes with Class 3 NI credits (although I believe at present there is an issue in them showing on your NI record straight away) and so claiming Carers Credits is probably not going to be of any benefit to you.2

How old is your Daughter? The person listed as the “main carer” for Children does not have to be the same person who is claiming Carers Element - so this may reduce your Work Related Requirements.Failing that, do you have any Social Services involvement? If your Social Worker can write a supporting Letter to state your Child’s care needs are so high that two full time Carers are required then a Decision Maker can look to override your Work Group. This would usually then be reviewed every 6-12 months.2

Disability Social Workers will do an assessment for your daughter and a Carers assessment for your wife and yourself. You will need a social worker in order to get any services or support. My son is an autistic adult now and has had social services involvement since he was very young. Your child’s consultant/whoever diagnosed her or your GP can refer you.0 -

Your child’s consultant/whoever diagnosed her or your GP can refer you.Depending on the level of on-going support etc they’d hand over to the Preparing for Adult Life (PFAL) Team from about age 14/15, and then if required into adulthood they would transition over to the Learning Disabilities Team.In my area you can self-refer via Children’s Advice & Duty Service (CADS). It might be worth googling your LA + Children with Disabilities or a variation on that theme.0 -
If your Daughter is 12 and you’re listed as the main carer, then your availability / work related activity is limited to a max of 30hrs per week.
You can change the main carer by going to Home - Report a change - Children & other people who live with you. Input today’s date as “date of change” and just click through without making any changes to Child details, then it’ll ask you to nominate a main carer (it should give the options of “Me”, “My Partner” and something along the lines of “We cannot choose”).It won’t have any impact on your Wife’s Carers Element etc.0 -

If your Partner is the one claiming Carers Element then they’d stay in the no work related requirements group - main carer for children (or children) is separate to carer for a disabled person.0
