I understand that it's not nice to be involved in an accident, which feels worse as it wasn't your fault.

Whether you can claim "trauma" as part of an injury claim, is a matter for the TP insurers, and you'll need to present a case for that, backed up with, say, a GP report.     Hopefully as the damage to the car was cosmetic, then your physical injuries aren't too bad.     I know I only had a few bruises from my seatbelt, thankfully.

That aside.     You say that you cannot afford to replace your car, with the payout offered, as you don't really want another, random, 15 yr old car.     I don't think many of us would.

But again, putting emotion aside for a bit,  I come back to the point of what WAS your plan to eventually replace your car.  As it wasn't going to run for ever.    It could have had a major engine/gearbox failure, or been stolen, or hit whilst parked or other misfortune that didn't involve you being in an accident.

Out of interest, what mileage did your car have on it?

I get that you want to direct all your anger at the TP for putting you in this position, earlier than you expected, but this day was going to come eventually, just under different circumstances.
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)

You can, assuming its medical psychiatric issues not just someone being a bit shaken up but if its on top of a whiplash claim you need to temper your expectations as its done by a tariff. So if you had whiplash for 6 months plus psych issues you get an extra £25 -v- if you only had a 6 month whiplash.
