Adey Magnaclean - jammed lid

Since I've had it installed I've once a year undone it & given the magnet a clean. It hasn't attracted much crud in that time, only a tad. Someone with a tip elsewhere said give the rubber seal a bit of a smear with silicone grease when re-fitting so I did that every time. Not a smothering just a smear.
Anyway I don't know what's happened this time round, maybe I overtightened it last time but I just can't get the lid off whatsoever. I'm pretty sure I've bent the pipework somewhat but not enough to create a leak.
I read another tip of turning the central heating on & then trying to take the lid off - but no can do.
Any idea how to get this lid off or is it really just going to be get a plumber to do it?
Out of interest what are they likely to do anyway to get it off? Other than if they kink pipes they can fix them whereas I can't so they may be more willing to go full throttle when trying to get it off.

Could try a couple of those Jar Lid Removers, one to grip and one to turn, failing that a oil filter removal tool.0

Magnaclean is usually supplied with a wrench - You can also get them as a spare from Adey or one ebay for a lot less.
Her courage will change the world.
Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.0 -
Mine is equally difficult to remove - no logical reason.
I also sili-smear, but the main thing is to only do it up hand-tight. Keep an eye for leaks afterwards.
Yup, worrying strain on the pipework. Perhaps two folk - one to hold the body?0 -
Have you vented the top ?

I really think I've likely over tightened & that's maybe the cause. I have a tendency to do this with things it seems0 -
Try to move the wrench towards tightening and then then without removing the wrench untightening straight away1

I doubt you've done anything wrong - mine is also very stiff to open. That's why I use a good smear of sili, and gentle-hand-tight only. Even so, it takes quite a yank - and you need to hold it steady.

If it's a Magnatek 2 then you can remove the filter from the valve coupling allowing you to then try to remove the top without stressing the pipework. Mine is stiff to remove, I do so once a year to clean and redose with inhibitor/cleaner.
I only think you're meant to wet the seal with water and clean off any crud on threads.
If you can remove then two people or a vice will help hold the main body. Unscrew the red knob off the body of the filter then pull the black handle towards the filter body to release the quick connect couplings. Adey have tutorial videos on their website.
You're only meant to hand tighten the use tool to 1/4 turn tight.
Good luck1 -
I've always had a problem with doing things hand tight.
I always think - that can't be enough.
This has resulted in 2 bent pipes to a radiator
An oil filter which took some serious effort to get off the car (but managed it & had actually been doing filters fine for years prior).
Speaking of which, I did try easing off once. Ended up with oil dripping on to my drive. Took a bit to suss out that it was the filter that hadn't been tightened enough.0
