I don't think it would be that as based on the above Premier League stats site, there are current players also on more than 3 cards. Foe example, Lewis Dunk who currently plays for Brighton has 5 on that list.

Therefore my guess would be that the (3) relates to there being 3 players tied so I answered with the 3 names

Just for clarification the question is who out of the fourteen initialled players who have played for both West Ham & Chelsea has the most red cards (3). The initialled players are:

Demba Ba, Yossi Benayoun, Tal Ben Haim, Wayne Bridge, Carlton Cole, Joe Cole, Craig Forrest, Glen Johnson, Frank Lampard, Scott Minto, Victor Moses, Scott Parker, Ian Pearce & Kurt Zouma.

But, using the same site, Ian Pearce has 4:

The question asks for the player with the most sendings off, but states they've been sent off three times. It's possible they've messed up with the question.
