Can a seller change the electricity supply to a smart meter, weeks before completion

Unless you are buying the property solely on the basis that it has a dumb meter or not a smart one, what is the issue?
And additionally, whether they are “allowed” to do it or not, it has happened. What are you expecting- that it will be removed and an older one put back in again? Compensation for a non-event? Good luck with that. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.2 -
Allowing that the OP has simply asked a straight question, there is a lot of projecting going on in the thread! The question has been conclusively answered, it might be a more friendly approach to now wait and see if the OP has any further questions arising - @dylanzmum , do you have any more concerns that we might be able to help address?🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Cant see any issue with this, home owner doesnt own the meters anyway. Loads of conspiracy theories out there, but never seen a difference in my bill I pay what is used and no estimatesDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.1

Do you use a mobile phone?Sapindus said:
The main reason I held out against them for a long time was that I felt more trust in a simple mechanical device than something that might be electronically manipulated, and because I felt suspicious and patronised by the advertisements trying to encourage me to get one by implying I couldn't work out for myself how much electricity electrical devices use, or was too lazy to read a meter.0 -
Very little. And that's not the point. "Oh yes I use a mobile phone so I may as well throw caution to the wind and give over everything to the cloud and hope for the best"?Hoenir said:

It sounds like the previous owner owned the house when the meter was changed, so I can't see the issue. They could have painted the hallway a different colour in August if they'd felt like it.0

They should help anyway if they do what they are suppose to do.Ayr_Rage said:It always amuses me that so many people want the latest tech that they happily hold to their heads or sit on their laps but there is so much reluctance to have the latest model of energy meter that sits some distance from humans merrily doing its own business and can actually help the householder save money.0 -
Can you get a smart meter replaced with an unsmart one?
Presumably, you can disable the smartness by wrapping kitchen foil around the transmitter unit?No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?1 -
Out of interest, how does that work? You can have the smart meter left in dumb mode but I would be surprised if any utility company would come out to replace a smart with a non-smart meter. I didn't think those were available any more?Grizebeck said:
You can replace them. Quite easily in some cases (I speak from personal experience)GDB2222 said:Can you get a smart meter replaced with an unsmart one?
