Advice on credit card please?

I booked a train ticket and paid on my credit card, But i had to cancel as something came up.
So i then requested a refund I got a refund but my card still shows I owe the money for my train ticket after the refund is this right? surely I owe nothing as I got a refund?

Assuming your refund was made to the same credit card, as is usual, it could take a while to show up, so it could just be a case of waiting. Refunds are rarely speedy, so you may have to 'pay' for it this month and then get a credit against next month's bill.
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!

A refund does not cancel out the original transaction, it is a separate transaction and may be on the next month's statement.
  • A lot of credit cards say that a refund does not constitute a payment due.

So there are two transactions listed - one being the original purchase and the other the refund of the same amount??

Are you looking at a list of transactions or at a statement produced at a point in time - in between the purchase date and the refund date?

Thanks for the response. I paid for the Train ticket on the 2nd September and asked for the refund on the 13th. My bank statement (from my credit card) says -£50  dated the 2nd Sept for the train ticket then on the 18th( last time i checked) +£50.

The debt doesn't disappear off your staatemnt. The refund adds the same amount as a credit  on your card account .

It says - £50 train line (who i brought the tickets from) then on the 18th + £50 trainline.
I hope my bank sorts it when i get my next statement. I am quite panicking over it.

But doesn't a minus followed by a + give zero?
Signature removed for peace of mind

So that minus is you being charged for the ticket.
The plus is the refund to your account.
So -50 +50 = 0     (the result is no charge)

Of course, if you had a statement prepared between 2nd and 18th September then the +£50 refund will not appear on the statement.  Do you normally pay your statement by DD in full or a lesser amount or do you initiate payment each time?
