Please tell me other people are noticing it too?
So many products have more water in, toothpaste used to be paste, now it sinks into the brush before you put it in your mouth. Sauces, shower gels, pump soap etc. are all much more watery and you have to use more.
I think we are all being robbed.
My toothpaste is still paste.  I usually buy Colgate.

You need to look more closely, I've noticed it with all the Colgate types I've tried.

Definitely noticed it with the Sainsbury's Stamford Street toothpaste and also has large air pockets, 100ml lasts little more than a week. I did a comparison with another 'brand' on g/ml and it was lower by a third.

Another Stamford Street product, tinned chopped tomatoes 400g seems a lot more watery in recent times.
How much toothpaste are you using! I get 75ml tubes of Colgate max white and that lasts a month for two people.

Well indeed Jon. It seemed to start when the Sainsbury's brand with blue lettering changed to the Stamford Street one. You might think it's just a lot of hot air, but actually that's probably exactly it ... I don't use the brand any more but after a few squeezes, maybe about ten, I would hear a pop while squeezing and it was just air coming until the tube was flat. Happened to about four tubes.

It's always a bad sign when the packaging changes, it usually means a step down in quality.
  • If companies had to declare the %age of their product that was ‘Aqua’ it would be easier to compare.

My shower gel is six times more expensive than OH’s but he has to buy his so frequently it’s possible mine is cheaper. His is so watery that it runs away through your fingers.

Sounds like a defective batch, did you try returning it? A tube labelled 100ml should contain 100ml of toothpaste and as its a volume measure it can't be "watered down" as a pea sized amount will be the same volume no matter the ingrediants.

... could have been Jon ... I'm actually using one now that was in my bathroom cabinet for emergencies, possibly bought first, it seems to be lasting much longer, a couple of weeks so far and feels like it has a way to go.

The previous tubes certainly seemed runnier and I used the usual amount on the brush. I suspect they were only about 25ml runny toothpaste, 75ml air. Of course 100ml should be the volume of the toothpaste however it's constituted. I keep a tube upright, cap at the bottom, hence the pop when the previous tubes were 'empty' of toothpaste followed by 75ml of only air coming out, as all the liquidy paste had run to the bottom. Of course this is only anecdotal and I only mentioned it to the member of staff each week as I bought another and eventually gave it up.

Another product that seems runnier or more dilute is Tesco lemon washing up liquid.

When I'm buying washing up liquid I always tip the bottle over so I can see how fast it runs to the other end, even if I'm buying more of the same.  Brand name/high price doesn't always mean it's the best.

You also can't assume that different varieties (colours/scents) of the same brand will be equally effective.  Sometimes the proportion of active ingredients is different, or the consistency varies.  I've noticed that with handwash, too - within one brand, the different "flavours" behave very differently.
