Do I need to leave India between visas

Hi I’m from UK working in India on an employment visa which is due to finish soon. I want to do some sightseeing after my contract before I return to UK and so am looking to apply for a tourist visa.

I have two questions really. I’ve been told I need to leave India for a few days before I’m allowed back in, does anyone know how long I need to leave for? 

My second question is, can I apply for a tourist visa from India whilst I’m here as I won’t be able to afford to go back and forth to UK.

I’ve been going round in circles with the consulate and the phone number I now have had an automated message and cuts off. I can’t find any info on line, there are so many sites just trying to sell products

if anyone can advise me or point me in the direction of a legitimate site, I’d appreciate it.

Dealing with Indian bureaucracy is not always straightforward, and something out of the ordinary such as your intention will be hard to navigate.

I suggest you go to Nepal for some sightseeing, applying for an Indian tourist visa online or at the Kathmandu embassy.
