Doing a farmhouse renovation , floors and walls insulated, we have lots of trees and have installed a 21KW log burner with back boiler for heating water and 7 radiators in the winter months through a thermal store which also has an immersion heater . I am also looking at 6KW PV Solar panels with batteries as I am also looking at an Everhot range cooker. As a backup for the autumn months (when the log burner isnt lit) I thought about a 1500KW storage heater for 1 room so say when i am not in I can control it to come on so it would be warm for when I come home to. But not sure about economy 7 , would this just be for the 1 storage heater (i.e a seperate supply) or would it be for all electricity used?

I'm sure a 1500kW heater would keep you warm enough ...
Economy 7 would almost certainly not work for you. For it to be economical, you have to consume like at least 30% and in many case up to 42% of the total annual usage during the seven overnight offpeak hours, which sounds unlikely that you would do even with the PV array contribution.
The normal arrangement for E7 is to have power-hungry equipment - e.g. storage heaters and hot water, but also EVs - fed from a separate circuit which is switched on and off at the appropriate times. All electricity consumed during the offpeak period is charged at the lower rate, but all the rest would be charged at a rate quite a bit higher than it would be on a non-Economy tariff.I'm not being lazy ...
I'm just in energy-saving mode.0 -

Are you sure that solar and batteries alone will always be sufficient to keep it hot? It'll be very expensive to run if you have to resort to mains electricity during the gloomy winter months.greevescat said:I am also looking at 6KW PV Solar panels with batteries as I am also looking at an Everhot range cooker.0
