Scotland - how long from death to funeral currently?

I know there's going to be a lot of variation but does anyone have recent experience of how long it's taking from death to funeral at the moment? A not-close family member has died and I'm looking at the calendar wondering what I might need to move.
When I was growing up in the West of Scotland it was always very quick (my mum was 4 days which was seen as very long but there were relatives from down south who needed to make travel plans). However I feel like now especially with crematorium availability it's usually longer. Is a couple of weeks more realistic?
West of Scotland, death in hospital following lengthy illness, cremation. I expect they have already decided on funeral director and celebrant since sadly there was another funeral in that family not long ago.

Not sure where in West of Scotland but there are very few crematoriums. If you are near Fort William, the only option is Inverness. Around 7-10 days, but the service was in the village. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing1

Its not a set thing... most will be 1-2 weeks post death, assuming no investigations required, but some can be quicker due to religious reasons and some are delayed to allow relatives from far afield to travel backCairnpapple said:I know there's going to be a lot of variation but does anyone have recent experience of how long it's taking from death to funeral at the moment? Ah right, it's greater Glasgow area so there are a few crematoriums (but they're busy).RAS said:Not sure where in West of Scotland but there are very few crematoriums. If you are near Fort William, the only option is Inverness. Around 7-10 days, but the service was in the village.0 -
Thanks, 1-2 weeks would make sense as no religious requirements and all relatives are local. We'll just have to see.DullGreyGuy said:Its not a set thing... most will be 1-2 weeks post death, assuming no investigations required, but some can be quicker due to religious reasons and some are delayed to allow relatives from far afield to travel back0 -
If you enter an appropriate town name into search at https://funeral-notices.co.uk/ it might give an idea of local timescales.

https://glasgowcrematorium.co.uk/ it's a lovely crem (much nicer than the one at Clydebank) and doesn't often get too busy most days

My Aunt died on 6th March and we had the funeral on 19th March. This was earliest we could have it and on basis of that we didn't pick a popular time slot. We picked 10.30 as all attendees local. Had we wanted a more popular time slot it would have been nearer the 3 weeks.1

I'm sorry for your loss and I hope the funeral went as well as possible. The family funeral I was asking about also ended up as 3 weeks from death to funeral.mabinogion_2 said:My husband died in Scotland on 6th September 2024 and the funeral was 25th September.0
