AdAware SE & Novice

Hugo SE told me to have a look at a page of instructions about the above from "that computerguy" Right now my computer is doing a full scan after I accidentally stopped it doing the same yesterday.

Is it Ok for me to use my computer when this scan is running? It takes a long time to finish the job. Yesterday it had found 35 critical objects up the point where I accidentally stopped it. Do I assume that all these would need to be got rid of i.e. are they all things I do not need or that may do harm?

The reason I am doing this is that pages are slow to load and when they do they are blank for a while and sometimes stay that way.

Is there any quicker way of scanning to locate malware?
