MBNA / Lloyds CC 'swap'

I've seen that MBNA and Lloyds offer customers the option of swapping an existing credit card for a new card. For example changing from a balance transfer card to a zero percent spending card.
My questions are:

Does anyone know if this creates a hard search?
Does it show up as closing 1 account and opening another on a credit file?

At the risk of sounding trite - why don't you ask them as they're the only ones who will know unless you get lucky and find someone here who has done it.
