Holiday cancellation and claiming on travel insurance

Hi, just if any one has any experience with travel insurance I have a question for you! So me and my boyfriend (don't live together so have separate policies) have had to cancel a holiday due to fly in 2 days after his grandad passed away.
We're with Axa (through Coverwise), the holiday is a full package through Jet2 (both names on the booking). We have the death certificate so can claim the cancellation costs.
My question is, will we both receive a refund for the cancellation costs? Due to us having the separate insurance policies.

I have a Coverwise policy...We will pay you up to £1,500 for your proportion only of any irrecoverable unused travel andaccommodation costs (including excursions up to £250) and other pre-paid charges which you havepaid or are contracted to pay, together with your proportion only of any reasonable additional travelexpenses incurred if cancellation of the trip or one-way trip is necessary and unavoidable as a result ofany of the following events:1. The death, bodily injury, illness, disease, or complications of pregnancy of:a. You.b. Any person who you are travelling or have arranged to travel with.c. Any person who you have arranged to stay with.d. Your close relative.e. Your close business associate.
This is their definition of a close relative...Close relative- Means mother, father, sister, brother, wife, husband, civil partner, daughter, son, grandparent, grandchild,parent-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, step parent, step child, step sister, stepbrother, foster child, legal guardian, domestic partner or fiancé/fiancée.
I dont see "relation of partner" on there, so not sure how it would work.
Without wanting to sound heartless, couldnt you just go? I suspect the funeral is unlikely to be within the next week and maybe pushing next fortnight, and it would at least take minds off it.1 -

I think it's unlikely you will be covered, because a policy surely won't cover you if you 'won't' go because somebody else can't go - because in reality you CAN still go. You need both to be on the same policy in order for both to be covered ( you can do this, I used to cover me and my mom on the same policy even though we didn't live together)
I agree with a previous poster, unless your BF has some really important stuff to deal with immediately that does actually prevent him travelling I would both go anyway.2 -
When my gran died a few years back my parent and his brother dealt with everything, was nothing for me to do, as heartless as it sounds if I had a weeks holiday booked I would have gone on it.
Have to add in here you now have the stress and worry of "will I get my money back or not " to add into the mix if you decide not to go, on top of everything else.1 -

First point will be what the cause of death was and if it was related to any pre-existing condition
Second will be that on the surface the policy isn't as comprehensive as some others and so would appear that they should have a right, as long as it wasnt a pre-existing condition, to claim but your claim is on much worse grounds.
For various reasons you're generally better off with all travellers on the same policy, if you don't live together it may have to be a "group" policy.1 -
