Additional insured person - home insurance

Options
Got a quote from Lemonade and when trying to buy it says the following:

"ADD HOUSEHOLD MEMBERS
Living with a partner or relative? Add them to your policy and we'll cover them as well. Kids under 18 are automatically covered."

I'm struggling to understand what this actually means, it's an additional cost but it's not travel or health insurance so I don't get what I'm actually getting for my money. Is this just so the other person(s) can make a claim without the policyholder doing it or is there more to it than that? Surely if we need to claim then I can do it as policyholder, the amount insured and all other terms are the same regardless.

Here's what they say about this, still not really clear to me:
What is an Additional Insured? • Lemonade Insurance

Thanks

They're trying to simply the policy wording into plain English but the result is it's unclear and really hard for those used to reading policy wording to understand them either.

They appear to state that if you insure in your name alone then your stuff and your kids stuff is insured but stuff owned by other adults isn't. What is totally unclear is how that is applied to jointly owned assets or how you determine ownership between spouses etc where legally most things are arguably jointly owned.

Lemonade was initially intended to be for young renters, their policy makes more sense in the context of a houseshare where you only want your stuff covered and much less sense for a married couple/family home etc
  • Thanks @DullGreyGuy, yes they refer to 'your stuff' multiple times in their policy.

Yes, and they say that if others are named in the policy then "your" should be read as all those named
