Hi all,

This is still ongoing, and not resolved yet, but I felt the need to vent. I purchased the one and only thing I've ever bought from sportsdirect.com at the start of August. It was a boxing bag for my son's birthday present, as he's started karate and wanted to practice at home. They had a good range, so I ordered from them.

Anyway, this was the one and only item I ordered from them, recieved it and gave it to him a few weeks later on his birthday. It was purchased new, but the box looked like it had after market tape on the top (I can't be 100% sure, but it was taped differently to the bottom, and had an "I've been openned before" scruffiness to the box flaps). Anyway, we open it to construct it and found there were parts missing, most importantly one of the central metal poles that the punch bag would be supported around, which meant the item is completely unusable. I contacted their customer service, and that's when my fun with them started. So far, I've had the following issues and interactions:

  1. The original issue. I recieved an item that has likely already been opened, with parts missing
  2. I contact their webchat customer service and go through all their questions to get to someone.live. After a lengthy chat and uploading images, they give me a return code for their portal. The code does not work
  3. I go through all the process on the webchat again to contact someone and explain this. They confirm the code is not correct, and promise to email me a new one. No email ever arrived.
  4. I contact them via email (via their online form you fill in), and explain in detail the 2 previous failed attempts at arranging a return, only for them to have clearly not read it and just replied with a generic reply with a statement basically saying "We're glad we could previously provide you with a return code" closing the case
  5. Finally, another email to customer services seemed to have been understood, but their solution was to offer me a partial refund of less than 25% of the order value, which I've rejected and replied asking for a full refund as my item it unusable.

This is far more work than I should have to put in for thier mistake

Anyway, after repeated failed attempts at a resolution, I've now raised a chargeback with my credit card provider. I hope it's successful.

I don't plan on ever shopping with them again.

Just to make you aware that if you win the chargeback, SD can chase you legally for the money.
Especially if you still have the goods.
