SSP query.

Sorry if this is a daft question but you do get 28 weeks PAID ssp don't you?

I'm currently off with a back problem, I've kept work updated with regular phone calls and e-mails.

Ive only received 24 weeks, they're saying I've had 28 (I haven't but they are renowned for being poor).

So it IS 28 paid?

gov.uk states "up to 28 weeks" which I would assume means for you that the full 28 weeks is payable.

It is 28 weeks is a PIW.  If you have been off within eight weeks before the start of your currant PIW then any SSP paid then will link with the new PIW.
So the question is when was your first day of sickness on which no work was done (This does not have to be a working day) and were you off before and your last sickness ended within eight weeks before that date.

I only work part time as I'm a carer, I do 12 hours (lets say Mon/Wed/Thu pm).

My last working day was Thu 22nd Feb, the first day I was actually off was Mon 26th Feb. I had my 7 days waiting and self certified for those 7 days.

I didn't have any periods of time off in the preceding 2 years so this shouldn't be an issue.

They only paid me 3 weeks last payroll and I had to contact them, they regularly make mistakes which is why as I've never had to claim SSP before I've kept every single payslip and double checked the lot.

I think I know the mistake they have made but hopefully they will rectify it.

If we assume that your qualifying days for SSP are Mon Wed Thurs (not always the case and that would alter the last day of payment a bit) then as you were off on 26/2 the three days in that week would be your waiting days for which no payment is due.  You should then receive a weeks SSP for the following 28 weeks which takes you to W/E 14/9
Have you been given form SSP1 yet

What do you think their mistake is?

Yes those are my exact calculations too.

I was sent that form quite a few weeks ago (its dated 23rd July?!) which set alarm bells off. On it they wrote the first SSP payment was 27th Feb - thats wrong for a start as that was my waiting week.....and the end date was 19th July, which is a total mystery to me as that barely covers 20 weeks.

I think they have either totally cocked up the dates or they are under the impression that the first wage I received following going on SSP was all an SSP payment which it wasn't, it was 3 normal working weeks then my waiting week.

Tbh it could be anything, they're not a company who treats employees too well, when I rang the lady in payroll she said you've had your 28 weeks.

At that point I hadn't even given her my name or store number so she's either psychic or irritable!

Edit - I have just put all my fit notes in an album on my phone, same with my payslips. Its as clear as day they haven't paid me my final 4 weeks. If they refuse to co-operate (remember they messed up last months and I had to ring them) what do I do?

If you are unable to get it sorted with the employer you can contact HMRC

I had an e-mail this morning from the payroll lady who insists my SSP is up. I said time wise it is yes but I have NOT been paid 28 weeks. She then says a combinatiin of 'you have' or 'maybe you've had another recent spell of SSP' then finally 'Sage won't let me pay you' (very hard person to speak to as she gets very animated).

I've asked her to have a thorough check and if she still thinks I've been paid 28 weeks then I'll contact HMRC.

The one part which IS my fault is the SSP1 form, the end date is totally wrong. Having never claimed this before I did not know if this date was THE end date or just the date of the notice etc.

That part is true in so much as it's done on a calendar. I would ask if you could get a screen shot of the calendar from SAGE under the "absence" tab in your employee profile.

They are very difficult to speak with, the lady got irate that I sent her my calculations. But I will try.
