Lithium batteries dying very quickly

Options
Has anyone else had issues recently with lithium batteries not lasting like they used to? I use them to power a microchip operated cat flap as well as a digital shower mixer control both of which I have had for over ten years. Both take AA batteries and until about the last year or so both would only need the batteries replacing about once a year, six months at worst. I always use good quality batteries from brands such as Duracell and Energiser but recently even if I buy the most expensive long lasting version of their products I have noticed them running out after only three or four weeks. I thought that it might be due to the devices getting old but the same seems to happening with the same type of batteries when used in my kids Xbox controller, and I just wondered whether anyone else has experienced the same or if anyone can offer sound advice. Thanks

  • Do you mean Lithium or alkaline batts? Just asking as the latter are more common in AA size..

One thing to do is check the source of batteries. There are a lot of fake batteries out there.

(Generally speaking, you should buy the appropriate type for the device as going for a more expensive type won’t last any longer and may even last for a shorter time. As an example, alkaline batteries are designed for intermittent bursts of relatively high power eg a torch. Using them in a continuous low power draw item like a clock wouldn’t give an advantage, cheap zinc chloride work much better. Lithium is also used for higher power drain)
  • Thanks for your responses. And sorry, yes matelodave Ive just realised I have been using alkaline batteries. In regards to fake batteries I am certain the batteries I have been using are genuine as they are purchased from reputable sources.
