In fixed energy deal until mid winter

Read lots about switching energy supplier to get good fix before energy price increase but what’s best option if already tied into an expensive deal until February 2025? Is it advisable to pay early exit fees to get good deal now or wait until contract runs out end of February, then pay variable until better rates offered during summer 2025? Feel like I’m forever stuck in having contracts run until winter when rates tend to be much higher.

What deal and unit prices are you on.
  • Wholesale prices have actually come down since mid-August, so at the moment the predictions for all periods beyond the October to December quarter have fallen a bit from where they were. How we go forward from here, however, is still as uncertain as ever.

You'd need to do the maths to figure out if any potential savings from lower unit rates and your usage will be greater than the cost of your higher unit rates plus any exit fees for your current tariffs - we obviously can't see that information from here. The few times I've considered this I've found that it usually works out better to stick with the higher fix, but I'm a low energy user so your mileage may vary.
