Old student loan

Options
hi, I took a 1 year student loan out in 1996 (course ended June 1997), in Scotland. From info I have found on this website I think this should now be cleared but I’m still being hounded by Erudio for payments.

It is over 25 years since first payment would have been due and I also turned 50 this year so under both scenarios this should be cleared - am I right? Is this regardless of how much is outstanding - as I had voluntarily paid some small amounts even when it had been deferred (under Student Loan Company but now with Erudio who have been a nightmare).

I think it's age 65 or 30 years.  The numbers you've mentioned resemble the England & Wales scheme
  • I had some of the old mortgage style student loans from an HND I did in Scotland in 1996-1998, originally Student Loans Company then sold onto Honours Student Loans.  I had always deferred them but had to start paying them back in 2022.  I ended up only having to pay some of the total loan amount back as they were written off by Honours Student Loans in 2023 due to it being 25 years after the date of the last original loan payment or something like that.   If you contact your loan company, they should be able to give you advice.  There is also further info on the MSE website, if you search' pre-1998 style student loans'....sorry it won't let me post a link.  Hope that helps.

No, that applies to post-1998 income-contingent loans (Plan 4).
